The Tennis Europe Junior Tour has been divided into three different age groups , the under 16, under 14 and under 12 categories. The ranking system for the Junior tour is similar to that for the professional circuit with a cumulative weekly ranking. The top eight players in each of the all categories compete in the Masters Tournament held at the end of the tennis season. An antidoping program has also been introduced.
Boys and Girls singles and doubles events are held in all the tournaments. The Category 1 tour events are usually open to high ranking players, while lower ranked players participate in Category 2 and Category 3 events to gain experience and improve their ranking.
In the last decade , many of the top ranked tennis players in both the mens and womens tour have been European - from Germany, Belgium, Switzerland, Russia and other countries. While individual talent is important, the European junior tour has been instrumental in providing a platform for the tennis players to hone their talent.
The European Junior Championships were the first major team championships organised for the Juniors. This was followed by the European Junior Tennis Tour in 1990. All the top tennis players from Europe have initially participated in the European Junior circuit, before turning professional. All member nations are encouraged to organise tournaments, and less developed countries receive financial assistance.
The Tennis Europe Junior Tour consists of both individual and team tournaments, tour events and European Junior Championships. The European Junior Ranking system is widely recognised throughout Europe.
